We have been watching a pair of adult robins gathering worms for their babies for the last few weeks.  Now we can see there are four young robins in the nest... known as baby beaks here at our house.  Robins make their nest in the same place every year in our backyard.  I guess that spot is working for them!

What a kickass bird week it's been in my backyard.  Here's a little update for the 2 people that I think will slightly care...

Baltimore Orioles!  First time I've ever seen them in my backyard.  Mark got a photo of the male and female hanging out in our neighbor's feeder so you can see the difference in their colorings.  Males are brighter orange with more black markings.  I was able to catch the female eating at my new yellow suet feeder.  What a cutie!



Also spotted this weekend was a Carolina Wren.  Once again this was the first time I've ever seen one here.  Haven't been able to get good photos yet of this tiny bird yet but here are the best of the worst photos I've got so far...

My neighbor has the Rose Breasted Grosbeaks at her feeder and I need to get some more bird seed asap.  I don't think I've got what they want to eat BUT I will soon.  Bird envy, yeah I've got it.  As for the Black & White Warblers that visited me a few weeks ago, I never saw them again.  Sadness.

definitely the highlight of this week... I saw a black and white warbler in my magnolia tree today!  what a perfect ocasion to share one of my favorite Charley Harper bird illustrations.  I hope this cutie comes back to visit again so I can get a photo.  I've got my camera ready!

three photos I took today reminded me of how easy it is to be happy... birding in the backyard... being amused by my cute dogs... watching my succulents come back to life after a long winter.  today was a nice day.  happy easter!

It's Spring and there is so much singing going on outside. The robins, goldfinch, and cardinals are in full force. Music indoors is nice too and this song always puts me in a good mood. Happy Saturday!

The light at around 4 PM today had a nice orange glow. So lovely.

I saved a bird today

I saw this young bird fall into our pool today so I ran across the yard to save it. It had started to drift into the filter and only the tip of its tail was sticking out...so I grabbed it! I've never touched a wild bird with my bare hands before! Once it dried off it hopped away and seems fine. I'm not sure if it's old enough to fly yet. I've been checking on it throughout the day and it has been hopping around like a champ.
