five for friday: iced tea

We bought our sun tea jar at Target a few years ago and it was worth every penny (I think it was about $25 bucks). I thought it was pretty perfect until recently when I spotted a few good looking tea makers. I'll start by saying we never use the spigot. After brewing, we put the tea into a large pitcher that is much easier to pour into a glass from the fridge. Most spigots end up making a drippy, leaky mess in the fridge. Plus that jar is so heavy that Mark has to be in charge of making the sun tea. I cannot lift it when it's full yet alone pour the contents out into the pitcher.

BIASCA Iced Tea Jug by BODUM ($39.95). Place a desired amount of tea leaves in the jug and fill it with cold water. Let it steep over night. Add ice cubes and sugar, as desired, the next day. The BIASCA features a filter that is integrated into the lid designed to keep the tea leaves in the jug when pouring tea.

For $10.95, this squared glass jug has a clean modern look and could be perfect for making sun tea. The white plastic lid has a hermetic seal and is BPA-free. Holds a little more than a half-gallon which is a good size for me to handle. Available from the crate and barrel outlet

This is a little fancier way to enjoy iced tea - even in the winter. With a stainless steel lid and diffuser, this cute vintage-looking teapot is shaped to sit in your refrigerator. Brew your favorite tea hot, remove the diffuser and refrigerate. $56 at Rare Device

The t-sac® is perfect if you want to use loose-leaf tea when you're brewing in a vessel without a built in diffuser/filter to catch the tea leaves. Made from unbleached paper, both compostable and biodegradable.
