Last Spring, John, Mark, and I watched the baby robins make their jump out of the nest into the big world. It was such a special moment watching the baby birds hopping around unable to fly. This robin is full of eggs – you can see how fat she is.

wooden birds

Kristian Vedel (1923-2003)
Kristian Vedel's bird family has been described as the whimsical side of Scandinavian modernism. Originally designed in 1959, only the small bird was set in production and it quickly became one of the most successful Danish wooden products from the 1950s. Today the entire expressive bird family is available - still handmade by a woodturner in a small village in Denmark. Each solid oak bird features a body and free-moving head that can be balanced to create various expressions while the body can be turned upside down to change the body shape.

I'm pretty sure my grandpa made these wooden birds. Wood carving was one of his many passions. I remember these birds from my childhood and my mom was nice enough to give them to me last year.

paver genius

Plucked this from the Modernica blog this morning... paver and planter combo walkway. Amazing. While this is actually a poured concrete creation, one might achieve a similar look with standard pavers and concrete planters. I know I'm thinking about how I can fit something like this into my paver project by the pool.

camping in luxury

T@B's T16-CS Clam Shell Camper with the add-a-room tent option is one of those fantasy purchases I'll make once we win the lottery. As the most affordable of my dream campers at $17K - $20K, there's hope that we could end up with one some day, even without the lottery. I'd like a grey and orange one, of course.

tree in phase two

I recently posted about our curly locks pussy willow tree...it had just started to produce it's fuzzy silvery buds. Well now look at it!

This is phase two of the budding season. Those fuzzy buds turn into alien caterpillar-like things. Such a cool tree!
