orange chair

During Lottie's Halloween photo shoot, I noticed just how awful the legs on my "new" orange chair actually looked. I really needed to do something... and soon.

About a week before Halloween, we rid of the gross and disintegrating old foam and put new high density foam in the seat cushion. This chair is so comfortable now! And for ModFruGal, a lady who's done some amazing furniture fixing and refinishing, I have included a pic of our electric knife (aka foam cutter) which is a family heirloom passed onto us by Mark's grandma in it's original, most awesome case. I thought you would appreciate it.

So back to the legs. They are in bad shape. David (of Pegboard Modern fame) and knower of all things vintage suggested I give Howard Restor-A-Finish a shot. Since this chair is not a Finn Juhl or a Hans Wegner but rather a Kroehler that I picked up for $25 bucks, I thought it sounded like a good plan. And in case you haven't tried Restor-A-Finish, it's incredibly easy to use.

The legs are not perfect however they are a hundred times better than they were. And really, nothing in my house is perfect so it would be weird if this chair didn't fit in with the rest of my well used vintage stuff. There is one leg that might need a little more love but it can definitely roll as is for now. I love this chair!!

  2. First of all, hot dog costume is AWESOME!
Secondly, what a wonderful job you did with those legs! Makes me want to do likewise with some of my vintage furniture. :)
